You Should Be Jealous of Your Dog’s Health Insurance

In the New York Times, Eric L. Wee compares his experience with health insurance under Obamacare to his dog’s experience with pet insurance. His dog, Lee writes, has coverage that is not only cheaper but offers far better quality of care than his own insurance policy.

Lee does not explore why, so allow me. As I’ve written previously, this disparity is due, in part, to the fact that pet insurance is far less controlled by government. Increasing government intervention over the last seventy years has
distorted the health insurance market, making coverage less affordable and reliable.
