Filming The Fountainhead and Ayn Rand’s First Plan

Our celebration of seventy-five years of The Fountainhead continues this month with “Filming The Fountainhead: Ayn Rand’s First Plan” by Shoshana Milgram.

After Warner Brothers met Ayn Rand’s asking price for the rights to The Fountainhead, she worked to adapt her novel for the screen. In this talk, available at ARI’s eStore, Milgram discusses how Ayn Rand’s first script, which included a Stoddard Temple sequence, was more than twice as long as the shooting script—and how, in the years that followed, she accepted changes only if they did not betray her story, ideas or hero.

Find out how—in her fight for Howard Roark — Ayn Rand never “went Hollywood” and never sold out.
