This May, two high school sophomores, Sarah Henry and Shelbey Michel, from Bethel High School in Spanaway, Washington, entered a National History Day competition in which they were to select a historical figure to feature as the subject of their research. It was a requirement of the competition that the person chosen embody leadership and have a strong legacy in the culture today. The students chose Ayn Rand. From there, they went to work learning everything they could about Rand and her philosophy of Objectivism — using resources from the Ayn Rand Archives at ARI — and then creating their exhibit for the competition.

An important new source of funding to help spread Objectivism was announced last year in July. Through the Objectivist Venture Fund (OVF), Carl Barney, ARI board member, has committed up to one million dollars to support Objectivists with imagination and persistence who want to put these funds to good use in advancing Ayn Rand’s philosophy. To date, OVF has received more than forty proposals from around the world and has awarded over $500,000 to projects with well-defined plans and clear objectives.
ARI is one of the co-sponsors of the Tenth International Conference on Climate Change that took place this week in Washington, D.C., Organized by the Heartland Institute, the conference raised critical question about past and current policies concerning energy and the environment. ARI’s Dr. Amanda Maxham joined panel 10 with State Senator Carlyle Begay and economist Alan Moran to discuss the impact of climate policy. Amanda’s talk is titled “Policy for people, not the planet.”
