50 Years of The Virtue of Selfishness

In honor of the 50th anniversary of The Virtue of Selfishness by Ayn Rand, the Ayn Rand Institute will be hosting activities such as talks, panel discussions, and book giveaways to draw attention to the top-selling book among Rand’s nonfiction.

Published in 1964, The Virtue of Selfishness had more than 400,000 books in print after only four months. Demand for the paperback first edition was so strong that a hardcover edition was published one year later. To date, 1.35 million copies have been sold. In this collection of nineteen articles, Rand offers a “new concept of egoism” based on reason as man’s means of survival and opposed to all forms of sacrifice.
