The Ayn Rand Institute Announces Early Registration Open for Objectivist Summer Conference 2017
December 21, 2016
IRVINE, Calif.—December 21—The Ayn Rand Institute, the leading center for the advancement of Ayn Rand’s writings and philosophy, today announced that early registration is open for Objectivist Summer Conference 2017, which will be held June 10–15, 2017, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square in the heart of the industrial center of America—Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The annual summer conference is an international event that gives attendees the ability to connect with others who want a better understanding of Ayn Rand’s ideas and how they apply in today’s world. “Most attendees come to enjoy the numerous intellectually stimulating sessions on ethics and other areas of philosophy, psychology, economics, art, history and business. However, many also return year after year to meet with old friends and to cultivate new ones,” said Anu Seppala, director of Cultural Outreach at ARI.
This conference will honor productive heroes and the heroism of productiveness. Pittsburgh is known for being the historical center of America’s Industrial Revolution and for its key contributions to America’s rise in global business, with business leaders such as Andrew Carnegie, James D. Rockefeller, Thomas Mellon and George Westinghouse all based in the Pittsburgh area. The conference will also honor the 60th anniversary of Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand’s magnum opus, whose central characters were business innovators such as Hank Rearden, who owned many businesses, including the steel mills where he developed a new metal called “Rearden Metal.” The novel celebrates the heroic value of productiveness and provides the foundation and context for the morality of capitalism and business.
This conference promises to be one of the largest with more than 45 sessions, including a course with Harry Binswanger, philosopher and a friend of Ayn Rand’s, titled “Concepts and Propositions,” covering chapters four and five of his book How We Know.
News about other speakers and additional programming will be announced soon.
