ARI Intellectuals at 2016 Foundations of a Free Society Conference

On June 1 and June 2, 2016, Yaron Brook, Steve Simpson and Tara Smith attended the 2016 Foundations of a Free Society Conference at Clemson University, hosted by the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism.

The conference attracts more than one hundred influential college professors and policy professionals and, thereby, provides ARI intellectuals with the opportunity to present our distinct perspective on the philosophical foundations of capitalism as well as engaging and exchanging with intellectuals who want to learn more about the morality of a free society.

Over the course of three days, the conference offered multiple talks and panel discussions covering a wide array of topics such as free speech, rule of law and the inequality debate.

  • Steve Simpson, director of legal studies at ARI, joined Robert Shibley, executive director at Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), on a panel about free speech and academic freedom in higher education.
  • Tara Smith, professor of philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin and author of the recently published Judicial Review in an Objective Legal System, discussed the role of the rule of law in a free society together with Richard M. Ebeling, the BB&T Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Free Enterprise Leadership at The Citadel, and Daniel Frost, assistant professor at Clemson University.
